This rarely performed opera features a comeback after 15 years! The grand seigneur of realistic musical theatre is back – and he is fulfilling a long-held dream: Harry Kupfer, who made theatre history here in the Behrenstrasse, presents a fundamental conflict of European modernity with Georg Friedrich Handel’s masterful Baroque opera Poro.

Eric sings the role of Alexander the Great.

Handel’s timeless masterpiece will be presented for the 21st consecutive year in the awe-inspiring majesty of Grace Cathedral. Perennially a sold-out event, audience members from far and wide attend this Bay Area favorite that features the superb American Bach Choir and the period-instrument specialists of ABS in one of their largest configurations, under the direction of Jeffrey Thomas. This annual tradition will feature the Boston Baroque debut of three artists: soprano Layla Claire, countertenor Eric Jurenas, and tenor Norman Shankle. They are joined by bass-baritone Nathan Stark, alongside the Grammy-nominated Boston Baroque Orchestra and Chorus. Conducted by Martin Pearlman, Music Director.

Eric returns to the role of Natascha, one that he performed to critical acclaim at the Wiener Staatsoper. This new production of Dorothea Kirschbaum features four countertenors and opens the new season at the Frankfurt Opera House.
